My Teacher - I Salute Thee !
Dr Ranbir Laishram *
Oh, my teacher !
In the core of my heart,
Forever, you dwell.
Long ago, you taught us
But still fresh as if yesterday.
Please behold from above,
Your pupils struggling with life...
Your priceless knowledge
Guided us in times of confusion,
Nurtured our sprouting minds.
Today we all grown up
Living our fruitful lives.
But, you remained as your own self
While in service and after,
Never begrudge other's life
With your simplicity, same dhoti and kurta.
I still wonder !
How could you be so simple and self satisfied ?
I vividly remember.
Every evening, in your daily walk,
On the same road we would meet.
You never looked up,never saw me.
Unable to overtake you in the narrow bylane
Slowed down my car's speed
And bowed to you with gratitude.
We, your pupils, with rapicity and envy,
Toiled day and night,
Always wanting more,
Never appeased with enough.
Oh,my great teacher !
Teach me the essence of life
Which we failed to learn.
