My First Acquaintance
K. Radhakumar *
Oh, how wonderful!
You stood out from the crowd.
When I saw you
I declared my interest silently
Then and there
And you did acknowledge me.
You exuded feminine magnetism
And the warmth stabbed at my heart,
It was a pleasure meeting you
And it made all the difference.
In the morning I saw you moving
Like leaves in the gentle breeze.
The full moon
And your face all lit up,
The dewclad leaves of grass
And your tender feet;
In the evening
Your finger ran around the lip
Of a glass of whisky –
I was drawn into a cosmic vortex
And could not find out who’s who.
When I saw you I felt the dramatic rise of my masculinity.
Inside I was all naked;
Outside – I do not know –
Did I appear a perfectly normal person?
I could feel the difference between
My own deep voice
And your good singing voice.
To my eye,
You were a full-breasted woman
An incarnation of beauty
And also a metaphysical problem
Of the Creation and the cosmos.
