Shri Moirangthem Kumar Singh was born on December, 1942 at Kongba Ukchekon, Imphal.
He was the son of Moirangthem Nabachandra and Moirangthem Ongbi Leipakleima Devi.
He had a keen interest in music since childhood.
Moirangthem Kumar Singh completed Sangeet Visarat (Vocal) and Vadya-Visarat(Violin) from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vidyapith, Lucknow.
Under the guidance of music teachers Laishram Ibopishak Singh, Hazarimayum Modhu Sharma, Sanasam Ibopishak Singh and Moirangthem Kula Singh (Kula Bashi), he had learned music and violin.
With the help of Fellowship offered by Manipur State Kala Academy in 1978-79, he continued to learn Violin and music from prominent music teachers of India-VG Jog(Violin), LK Pandit and Chinmoi Lahiri(Vocal).
Kumar Singh joined Departmental Drama Unit(DDU) of Publicity Department as an artist in 1968.
Later in 1980, he become a Lecturer of violin at Government Music College and held the post of Departmental Head in later years.
In 2013, Moirangthem Kumar Singh retired from his job as a Senior Lecturer and Head of Department.
He is an approved artist of AIR Imphal and also given Solo Recital for Violin in many State and National level music concerts.
Kumar Singh had also given Vocal performances in various Classical Music Concerts and he is also a Manoharsai singer.
Some of his published books on music included Hindustani Sangeet(1989), Rammalika(1992), Sangeet Prabhati(2009) and Sangeet Tarangini Violin (2013).
He was awarded Certificate of Honour 2018 on 200th Birth Anniversary of Shyamsunder and also accorded with Lifetime Achievement Award 2016 by Panthoibi Cultural Research Centre for Performing Arts.
In recognition of his contribution to music, Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal has awarded him with Sangeetbhusan (Hindustani) on its 83rd Annual Meeting.
