Men In Uniform
Soibam Haripriya *
An amorphous nameless faceless mass
Swarms the streeet
like the white mist of winter
Each indistinguishable from the other
Yet each settles on skin
Singularly
like granules from clouds of dust
billowed from a cursed broom
Summoned by you
the world should freeze to a standstill
And produce lifeless bits of paper
to authenticate the living one
trembling under your nose
Your haughtiness
would shame an immortal man or beast
Your sight reverbrates
like a dull headache
that taps rhythmically
when awakened with a start
Your whims we endure
like that of an acloholic father's
love long lost
only tedious patience remains
hanging on thin yellowed strips of paya
In a flash of lightning
and aftermath thunderous applause
I wish to emasculate you
of your brainless guns
of your copious fatigues
Adorning them like the emperor's new clothes
You march proudly naked and hollow
I warn you
despised brother of mine
I am mightier than you
For my pen bleeds blue
