Meluri-Jessami border row
Nagaland Post | Dimapur, May 29 (NPN)
After a lull, there seems to be fresh tension brewing along the Nagaland-Manipur border in Meluri-Jessami areas. While Meluri Village Council (MVC) has decided to boycott the initiative of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) and Pochury Public Forum (PPF) in bringing an amicable solution to the land dispute between Meluri and Jessami villages, Jessami Village Council (JVC) Tuesday alleged that Meluri villagers violated the “direction” of TNL and PPF.
Talking to Nagaland Post, Meluri Village Council (MVC) sources Tuesday said that in retaliation against Jessami villagers erecting stones recently at Thechii River (Jiji) to “misguide PPF and TNL” and the failure of the two organizations to settle the border dispute, Meluri villagers Monday were “compelled” to take the step of erecting the “symbols at the original traditional boundaries”.
The sources said that they found “plantations” within the traditional land of Meluri and therefore the “trees were slashed” and traditional boundaries demarcation were “marked with flags”.
