Consultative meeting on ST status at Bokajan, Assam

A consultative meeting with World Meetei Council (WMC) held on 24th October, 2021 at Bokajan, Assam jointly organized by
Karbi Anglong Manipuri Cultural Association (KAMCA),
Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (IMPAL) Bokajan,
All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union (AASMU) Bokajan and
Manipuri Village Development Committee (MVDC) Kawaram
resolved that the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Meetei community which is long overdue to protect her culture, tradition and ethnic identity wherever Meetei living in any state of India.
However, unless it is recognized in the birth place of Meetei i.e., in the state of Manipur, the Meetei shall not be able to demand in other states such as Assam and Tripura where Meetei have been living for centuries.
This consultative meeting was attended by CSO leaders from across Assam like Hojai, Karbi Anglong, Guwahati, etc.
The leaders of the Meetei Civil Society Organizations present in the meeting have placed their ardent and sincere request to the hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur, Shri N. Biren Singh to send the recommendation to the fact that the Meetei community which is a sinking indigenous people to be included in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list of the Indian Constitution from his good office to the Government of India at the earliest so that justice is done to the Meetei people to get their due constitutional rights.
In this regard, memorandums have been submitted to Hon’ble PM of India, Hon’ble CM of Manipur and Hon’ble CM of Assam.
