Meeting of PDA on situation in Nagaland
Dimapur, 6th August 2018
The People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) had an emergency meeting on 6th August, 2018 at Dimapur, Nagaland under the Chairmanship of Mr. Chingwang Konyak, Chairman PDA, in-view of the present situation in Nagaland as a result of the calamities caused due to incessant rains. The following resolutions were adopted.
1. The PDA expresses deep condolences to the members of those families who have lost precious lives and our concern to those citizens who are undergoing difficulties due to floods, landslides and sinking zones caused by the heavy rains.
2. The PDA expresses its appreciation to the Government of Nagaland and all the concerned government and non-government agencies including the administration, police and paramilitary, the NSDMA and the NDPF for being alert to the situation and contributing towards prevalence of normality despite a crisis like situation and ensuring sufficient stock of all essential commodities throughout the State.
3. The PDA expresses its appreciation to the Government of India under the leadership of Honorable PM, Mr. Narendra Modi, who have positively responded to the requests of the State by extending all possible assistance and also for deputing the MoS (Home) to visit the State and take stock of the prevailing conditions. Appreciation is extended to Mr. Kiren Rijiju for taking the trouble to visit the State and assure the GoI’s fullest assistance to Nagaland to prevail upon the present condition.
4. The PDA calls upon the citizens of Nagaland to come together under a spirit of unity and extend all possible help to the various departments and agencies who are tirelessly working to ease the sufferings of the people and combating the difficult forces of nature.
5. In view of the prevailing conditions, the PDA has set up coordination committees comprising of the presidents of the respective PDA parties at the district level. These PDA committees will have coordination meetings and also meet with the district administration in order to extend any assistance and logistics if necessary for carrying out relief and rehabilitation. The committees will also furnish information of any damages, calamities or difficulties being faced by the people to the respective district administrations for follow up actions.
6. All MLAs and party functionaries appointed to various government positions will be contributing one month’s salary towards the relief fund and we also appeal to all rank and files of the PDA parties to contribute voluntarily towards the relief fund drive.
7. All PDA partners pray to Almighty God for relief from the fury of nature and also for the comfort for those who have been impacted by the calamities.
