Mary Kom training out of her skin for London Olympics
Times of India | Chinmay Kulkarni, TNN | Feb 26, 2012, 06.10AM IST
MC Mary Kom is leaving no stone unturned in her quest for Olympic glory. With less than five months to go for the London Games, the five-time world boxing champion flew down to Pune from NIS, Patiala last week to train under well-known coach Charles Atkinson for a month.
"I wanted to train alone... away from all the distractions," said the 28-year-old mother of two who hails from Manipur.
Having moved up to the 51-kg category (from 48 kg), Mary Kom, who is being touted as a medal prospect for the Olympics, has decided to try something different. Women's boxing has been included at the quadrennial extravaganza for the first time.
"It is a heavy burden on my shoulders. But I have the support of the sports ministry, SAI, my coaches and the whole nation . More importantly, I have the belief that I can pull it off."
