Manipur jail to get CCTV, mobile jammer

Manipur’s Sajiwa Jail, which houses several hardcore insurgents will now be equipped with close circuit TV and mobile signal jammers. Home minister G Gaikhangam told reporters after his first visit to the jail since he was sworn in as minister after the recentlyheld elections.
The home minister also said the Imphal Central Jail would be merged with the Sajiwa Jail on Imphal-Ukhrul Road. Gaikhangam also visited the Imphal Central Jail, which had been turned into an all-woman jail. In Sajiwa Jail there were 269 normal under trial prisoners (UTPs), 155 extremist UTPs, 32 NDPS, 180 prisoners detained under National Security Act and 34 life convicts.
