Manipur's bittersweet year of art, angst

History was scripted on December 4 as the state's age-old art form — Nat Sankirtana — conceived by the Manipur king Bhagyachandra Singh in the 18th century, entered Unesco's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The Indo-Myanmar border fencing along Moreh in Chandel district became a major issue this year. Fearing loss of Manipur territory, social organizations and political parties opposed the fencing, which was stopped following the Centre's instruction.
