Manipur alert after warning
The Telegraph | Imphal, Aug. 22:
The Okram Ibobi Singh government has sounded a red alert in the state to prevent an outbreak of violence in the aftermath of the exodus of students and professionals to Manipur from other cities. The move followed a warning by the Union home ministry that Manipur-based militant groups — Islamic National Front, Islamic Revolutionary Front, United Islamic Revolutionary Army and Peoples United Liberation Front — could foment trouble.
Official sources said the government was apprehensive about retaliation from those who have returned and anti-social elements against “outsiders” living in the state. The sources, however, said till now there was no report of any trouble in the state.
