The predominant discourse on Look East Policy (LEP) has been focused on its historical development and process and what specific role the state can play in what was considered India's second most significant foreign policy.
Local response: Connecting LEP with the Northeast has been linked to development supposedly put to grinding halt because of decades old armed conflicts and India's response to the same issue vis-à-vis its seemingly unstable and difficult "soft border exercises".
'China fear', security shadow over NE: There have also been emerging voices that even if the Northeast region want to partake in India's significant foreign policies, "trust deficit" remain one obstacle. It has often been argued that so long as the Northeast region is viewed suspicion only from the "security prism", there will not be much impact of LEP.
