Loktak witnessing drastic fall in arrival of migratory birds

Migratory birds including waterbirds increasingly face a whole variety of new risks because of changes in climate, hydrology and the ways the humans alter the landscape of their habitat in Loktak, the largest freshwater lake in North East.
“Compared to previous years we have observed drastic reduction in the number of migratory birds on the counting day,” said Deputy Conservator of Forest (Park and Sanctuary Arun RS. “We have been observing that migratory birds were coming in groups but hardly spending one week (against their usual stay of three to four months) and going away from Loktak to some other places”, he added.
