Link Research with Education for Sustainable Development of North East

Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), a National Institute of
Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India, based in North East India, today took a major
initiative and organized a Round Table Discussion on “Research & Educational
Priorities for Transforming North East India” at Imphal to discuss strategies to link research
with education.
No country in the world has developed without applying advances in Research and
Development and Education , said IBSD Director, Prof Dinabandhu Sahoo, who is the key
architect of the initiative. While addressing the gathering, that comprised of educationists,
scientists and students, he emphasised that there is an urgent need to bring rapid development
in the North East through scientific based interventions and applications.
Shri Th. Radheshyam Singh, Hon’ble Minister for Education, Labour and Employment,
Government of Manipur, who inaugurated the function as Chief Guest , lauded this intiative of
IBSD and agreed that this is a timely move and that while there are problems afflicting the
region, no sincere efforts have been made to systematically and scientifically prioritize the
problems and also to identify the solutions. He further requested all the educationists, scientists
and students to work beyond degrees and to work towards sustainable development of the
region.
The outcome of this discussion involving policy makers, administrators, educationists, scientists and students will be a action plan to link research and education for the sustainable development of the North East, said Sahoo.
