Licypriya Kangujam invited to lecture at IIT Bombay
Indian environment and climate activists Licypriya Kangujam has been invited to lecture at IIT Bombay in Mumbai today. Licypriya interacted with the top Indian Scientists, Professor, Researcher and students for one hour in India's top premier institute.
Licypriya highlighted the challenges faced as one of the youngest child climate activists globally. IIT Bombay appreciated her works in the field of climate change and her contributions in the global climate movement to keep earth’s temperature below 1.5 degree celsius by 2030.
Licypriya was instrumental in signing an ordinance to enact the first air pollution law to tackle the high air pollution level in India in 2020 by the then President of India Ram Nath Kovind. She transformed the iconic Taj Mahal into a single used plastic free monument in 2022. and also Delhi University made it mandatory for each student to pass one tree each year to pass their final examinations which is her idea and the long demand set to the Government.
Licypriya’s protest at the crucial juncture of COP28 led to the agreement to end the era of fossil fuels by 2050 at the United Nations. Her story is even taught as a chapter in CBSE English syllabus of Grade 3 & 9.

In the Lecture Series organised by IIT Bombay, Licypriya ia amongst the Speaker like ISRO Chairman S Somnath, Reliance jio Chairman Akash Ambani,Former Army General Manoj Mukund, Nobel Laureate Leland Hartwell, DRDO former Chairperson G Satheesh Reddy, CERN Senior Research Scientists Prof. Albert De Roeck, UK Space Research Agency Director Harshbir Sangha and others.
Licypriya is also a Guinness World Record Holder for her plastic pollution campaign and currently worked as Special Envoy of Timor Leste. Licypriya stated that we need to fight the global climate crisis based on science only. Scientists have already given enough solutions to replace fossil fuels to solve the climate crisis. But due to lack of political will by our leaders, our planet has now crossed the tipping point.
"Young people need to hold our lawmakers accountable, transparency and commitments to save our planet and our future”, she further added.
Licypriya also shouted the slogan “Meitei na Yaifare” at the end of her lecture and urged people to pray for peace in Manipur.
