Mr. Pranay Verma
Honorable High Commissioner Indian High Commission in Dhaka Bangladesh
Subject: Call for resolving the ongoing violence in Manipur.
Dear Honorable High Commissioner,
Greetings from Ethnic Community Development Organization (ECDO)! ECDO is a nonprofit and non-government voluntary development organization working for the development of different indigenous communities in the Sylhet region, northeastern part of Bangladesh since 2002. ECDO becomes United Nations (UN) special ECOSOC status since 2016.
Besides of this ECDO is also affiliated to different national and international organizations like; World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), Shusashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujon), Bangladesh Environmental Lawyer Association (BELA) etc.
We have been working on education, health, human rights, research and publication on indigenous issues and on income generation activities for the indigenous communities such as tea labor, Khasi, Patra, Shabdkar, Manipuri etc. in Sylhet region of Bangladesh. We know Bangladesh and India are friendly country. This is not just good relationship between the two countries; we have also a very cordial relationship among the mass people of these two countries.
However; we, on behalf of ECDO and different ethnic people of Bangladesh are very concerned about the armed violence that has been going on between Kuki and Meitei community in Manipur state of India for about last three months. As citizens of friendly neighboring country India, we really concerned about this bloodshed. We know any kinds of violence that goes for a long time is likely to spread different places in the country, even outside of the country.
So its future consequences are very dire. We knew through different media till to date hundreds of houses burned, thousands of people become displaced and homeless, near about two hundred people have died from the both communities within this period of time, which is very much pathetic.
Moreover, thousands of women, children and aged ailing citizens of the state are currently staying in inhumane situation in the various refugee camps, which is very sad. We never expect this scenario in a large democratic country like India.
We, the mass people of Bangladesh, as well as people of the world are expecting a meaningful initiative to the central government of India for a quick and peaceful solution of this current violence.
We, on behalf of ECDO are praying to Almighty God to keep the departed souls in peace, died in this violence and also our deep condolence to the family members of Kuki and Meitei community.
Anticipating your valuable and meaningful initiative to dispatch our message to the concern authority of Manipur state and Indian central government. With deep respect and love
Khoirom Indrazit
