Vice –chancellor of Manipur University of Culture, Prof.N. Khagendra today delivered a lecture on ‘T.S. Eliot’s contribution to contemporary literary criticism’ today at Lamyanba Shanglan, Palace Compound.
Today’s lecture was first of its kind which is supposed to be held every three years in the state with the main theme: Lecture on contemporary literary criticism and it was sponsored by renowned critic, Prof. Nongmaithem Tombi Singh.
Delivering the lecture, Prof N. Khagendra said that Manipuri literature lacks objectivity in criticism and it is impressionistic criticism. He stated that T.S Eliot‘s contribution in the field of literature is immense and it cannot be replaced by anybody or literary movement. There is always a binding of creativity and criticism in T.S. Eliot’s work, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. N.Tombi stated that with an aim of creating awareness about criticism, the lecture is being organised. He further added that we had studied western criticism and Indian Aesthetics but we need to develop our own school of criticism.
The programme was attended by members of Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, Scholars, Professors among other.
It is worth to mention that the programme was organised in connection with the 85th birth anniversary of Prof N. Tombi.
