Hon'ble Chief Justice, High Court of Manipur during visit at National Lok Adalat held at Lamphel Court complex

The Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) in association with High Court Legal Services Committee and District Legal Services Authorities organized the last National Lok Adalat for the calendar year, 2023 on 9th December, 2023 at all the District Courts & High Court.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Siddharth Mridul, Chief Justice, High Court of Manipur & Patron-in-Chief, MASLSA accompanied by His Lordship Hon’ble Mr. Justice A. Bimol Singh, Executive Chairman, MASLSA & Hon’ble Mrs. Justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, Judge, High Court of Manipur visited the sitting of National Lok Adalat at Thoubal Court Complex and Lamphel Court Complex respectively.

During interaction with media persons at Lamphel Court Complex, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Siddharth Mridul, Chief Justice, High Court of Manipur stated that both prelitigation and those civil cases pending before the courts can be referred to the Lok Adalat.

Large number of categories of cases such as Bank recovery cases, MACT cases, Matrimonial disputes, Negotiable Instrument Act cases, Land Acquisition cases, Electricity & Water Bill cases & Compoundable criminal cases can be settled before the Lok Adalat.

Hon’ble the Chief Justice further stated that every person can approach the Help Desk or Front Office of MASLSA and DLSAs for taking up their cases in Lok Adalat. No legal fee is required to be paid and no commission will be charge for settlement of any dispute between the parties.

Any award or order passed in the Lok Adalat carried the same weight as a civil court decree. As the compromise arise out of consent between the party, the award will be final and no appeal rise before any court except in the case of fraud or mis-representation. Hon’ble Chief Justice appealed to all to avail this Alternative Dispute Resolution where the settlement can be done instantly without any cost.

Out of 206 cases which were taken up, 99 cases were successfully resolved during the Lok Adalat with total settlement amount of Rs. 1,62,56,867/- (Rupees one crore sixty-two lakh fifty-six thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven) only.

Ms. N. Lanleima, Presiding Officer, MACT; Ms. Monalisa Maibam, Special Judge, ND&PS, Manipur & Mr. K. Nirojit, Civil Judge (Sr. Divn.), Imphal West presided as Chairperson of 3(three) benches of National Lok Adalat held at Lamphel Court Complex.

Mr. Ch. Momon Singh, Advocate, Mr. Ch. Bimolchandra, Advocate, Ms. B. Supriya Devi, Advocate, Ms. Ph. Binodini, Advocate, Ms. I. Lenibala Devi, Advocate & Mr. P. Tolen, Advocate performed as Members of the benches of National Lok Adalat held at Lamphel Court Complex.

MALSA is thankful to the Presiding Officers, Judicial Officers, Ld. S. Devananda, Advocate & Media Coordinator, Ld. Advocates, PLVs, Staff of the Court & MASLSA, Officials of Bank/ Insurance Companies, News and Print Media & all the parties for contributing & participating in the National Lok Adalat and making this programme a success.

It is also requested to all the News and Print Media to give wider dissemination of Lok Adalat so that more people may avail the opportunity for resolving their dispute through this Alternative Dispute Resolution i.e. Lok Adalat.
