Labourer girl in limelight for Class X success
Seven Sisters Post | Yumnam Rupachandra | Imphal (May 30):
Moirangthem Sapna
Her name neither figures in the top 10 or top 25 in the just concluded Manipur Board exam for Class 10. She is just a second division holder with a letter mark (80) in mathematics but she is the one on whom the spot light is on and all the movers and shakers of Manipur including the state education minister have come out in her support.
The turning point for the 16-year-old Moirangthem Sapna of Lamlongei in Imphal West came following a heart wrenching expose by a local tv news channel ISTV News which broke her sad tale. When the entire state is celebrating Md Ismat’s success, Sapna was quietly burying her dream for further studies. In reality, she is torn between her deranged father and abject poverty.
She has to bear the burden of feeding her two siblings and pursuing her desired dream is something too much to chase. “I have decided not to pursue my studies,” said Sapna with her teary eyes. Her feat is certainly no less significant than Md Ismat as she managed second division after encountering many odds. Sapna passed from a government aided local school Public Girls High School of Lamdeng Khunou.
