SHRI KONSAM SHANTA SINGH Akademi Young Talent Award: Music
Born in 1973 in a family with rich musical tradition, Shri Konsam Shanta Singh of Kongba Makha Nandeibam Leikai, Imphai, is an established artiste of Tabla in his own right.
The fourth son of Shri K. Ibobi Singh, a well-known Nata Sankirtana Pung artiste, he inherited his love for percussion instruments from his late father and his zeal for Tabla was drawn from his brother Shri K. Indrajit Singh.
His passion for Tabla was so strong that it drew him to feet of several renowned Tabla gurus such as Mukund Narayan Bhale, Jamuna Prashad Patel, and Ramnath Singh Thakur - all noted exponents of their respective gharanas.
An approved artiste of DDK and AIR, Imphal, Shri Shanta has completed Vadya Visharad in Tabla from Bhatkhande Sangit Vidyapith, Lucknow, and Kovid in Tabla from I.K.S. Vishwavidyalaya, Khairagarh, in addition to a course in Sugam Sangeet.
He has secured top positions at state and national level music competitions and has also participated in various national level festivals where he revelled as a solo artiste and as a gratifying accompanist.
Best known for his sweetness and swiftness in playing Tabla, he is presently a key artiste of a popular orchestral group.
In recognition of his talents and accomplishments, Shri Konsam Shanta Singh is conferred with Manipur State Kala Akademi Young Talent Award.
