8th International Yoga Day at NSU Imphal
National Sports University Celebrates 8th International Yoga Day-2022
National Sports University celebrated the 8th International Day of Yoga 2022 today. Students, faculty members, staff and their families and friends participated in the celebrations in physical and virtual mode. Smt. Ng Sonia Chanu, Arjuna Awardee and Soma Laishram, Manipur Film Actress & Fitness Enthusiast graced the occasion as special guests and were facilitated by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.
As a part of IDY celebrations, a common yoga protocol session was led and conducted by Dr. A Yuvaraj, Assistant Professor, NSU. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Officers and staffs followed the session along with others students and faculties.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Shri R.C Mishra, IAS (Retd) addressed the gathering. He emphasised that the Yoga is not about exercise or perfecting certain postures or techniques. He stated that the essence of Yoga lies in attaining the feeling of oneness and unity between one’s inner self and the outer world. It is this perfection of oneness that makes it possible to live in harmony with nature.
No other discipline or practice including the practice of medical sciences can achieve this harmony of mind, body and soul and provide a holistic wellness to humanity. Yoga is the greatest gift of India to the humankind and today it is being practiced all over the world. Considering it’s all round benefit, he urged upon the participants to make it a way of life and part of their daily routine.
He also advised the faculty members to conduct regular Yoga session at the NSU campus at least 2-3 times a week if not daily for the benefit of students, faculty and staff.
Morning session of celebration was followed by an interactive session in the afternoon with Dr Yogendra Kushwah Yogi, International Yoga Expert and also Founder of Yogi Yoga Classes. The session was also addressed by Registrar, NSU. He stressed the importance of Yoga in living a healthy lifestyle.
Dr. Yogendra Kushwah Yogi, dealt on “Yoga for Better Life” and enlightened the participants about scientific relevance and importance of Yoga in our life. He explained how Yoga practiced perpetually benefits in reduction of stress at work for a healthier body and mind.
He also highlighted the mental health, physiological and psychological benefits of Yoga for the individuals. He also emphasised on various Yoga therapies for the betterment of our life. After the session, Dr. Yogendra clarified various doubts and questions put forth by the students.
The concluding remarks was delivered by Dr. Usha Nair, Associate Professor. She appreciated the session and also encouraged the students to inculcate Yoga as a way of life.
