Internal tussle within the Government : Critical issues at hand
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: October 03 2019 -
Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Final agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) imminent.
The internal confrontation in the BJP led Government.
All different issues, but which nonetheless will continue to grab the attention of the people and which have immense potentials to throw the State into a period of uncertainty and trouble.
The political uncertainty continues with Union Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly meeting the top BJP leaders of Manipur at New Delhi, even as this comment is being written.
No one knows how things will unfold in the next few days, but what is certain is the point that Manipur certainly cannot afford a period of such uncertainty when so many issues are facing the people straight on the face.
Those engaged in the tussle may stick to the stand that it is an internal matter of the party, but lest they forget the internal affair of the party can certainly impact on the lives of the people.
What if the uncertainty continues and amid this, CAB is passed in Parliament and enacted ?
Can a Government riven by internal differences be expected to meet the eventualities ?
Already the Manipur People Against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (MANPAC) has struck a very strong stand and anything may happen.
Can a divided Government be expected to deal with any such situation ?
Will it be in the position to engage with the Centre so that the interests of the indigenous people are not affected when the said Bill is passed ?
Isn’t this a people oriented issue ?
What happens if the interests of the State are deemed to have been adversely affected when the final deal is struck with the NSCN (IM) ?
Ideally this should be the time for the Government to walk with the people and discuss ways and strategies on how to ensure that the interests of the land and the people are not compromised in any way.
But with the internal difference in the BJP still on with no solution in sight, can one expect the Government to sincerely address these issues ?
These are questions which have already been raised earlier, but it is more than clear that not a single, sincere thought has been given to these posers.
The internal difference now runs deep, very deep and one cannot expect the feuding sides to come to an agreement easily.
This is what is disturbing to note.
Does not appear that the difference can be settled anytime immediately and this is where the Centre may act on its own that its plans and agendas can be put in place without further ado and this is where the CAB issue looms large.
Or will it be a question of the baton being given to any of the feuding personalities who can be amenable to the plans of the Centre, though it may be opposed by the people ?
Or if the stand off continues, then what can be the fate of the BJP led Government at Imphal ?
And on what issues have the voice of dissent been raised ?
Does it have anything to do with the overall interests of the people and the land or is it something else ?
Can Manipur afford the stand off at this crucial period ?
