The Centre for Myanmar Studies, Manipur University, the only Centre on Myanmar Studies in India, is the brainchild of the scholarly collectivism of the academia of Manipur University, came into existence in 2005 under the Area Studies Programme of the University Grants Commission with a broad vision of understanding Myanmar from the multi-disciplinary perspective.
To enhance further understanding about Myanmar in the present global scenario, the Centre for Myanmar Studies (CMS), Manipur University as part of its academic programme is organizing An Interface with Dr. Nehginpao Kipgen on Indo - Myanmar Relations
on 10 January 2019
at the Conference Hall of Anthropology Department, Manipur University
at 12.30 p.m.

Dr. Nehginpao Kipgen is an Associate Professor and Executive Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Jindal School of International Affairs. He is a Political Scientist whose concentration are in Comparative Politics and International Relations. His general research interests include democratization, global/world politics, human rights, ethnic conflict and identity politics, and foreign policy.
His academic research focuses on South Asia and Southeast Asia, with specialization on Burma/Myanmar. He has presented papers and served as chair and discussant in several international academic conferences, including International Political Science Association (IPSA) and International Studies Association (ISA).
He is an IPSA Board Member on RC18 - Asian and Pacific Studies. Since 2013, Dr. Kipgen has served as a “country expert for Burma/Myanmar” for Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem), a collaborative academic research project of the Department of Political Science, University of Gothenburg (Sweden), and the Kellogg Institute, University of Notre Dame (USA).
Dr. Kipgen was awarded scholarships by Open Society Institute, New York; Prospect Burma, London; and the U.S. State Department for his Masters and Doctoral programs. He is also a recipient of International Writing Award from Earth Community Organization, Canada. He is the author of three books, several peer-reviewed academic articles and also over 180 non-academic articles in over 30 countries across five continents - Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe and North America. He also appears in radio and television programmes across the globe.
