IndiGo takes off on Manipur mission
- Airline to transport medicines free of cost in blockade-affected state
The Telegraph | Sumir Karmakar | Guwahati, Feb. 21
IndiGo, the largest private airline in the country, today joined hands with the Manipur government to transport emergency medicines free of cost to people affected by the ongoing blockades. The airline said it would transport insulin, vaccines, serum and hormones on a priority basis under IndiGo Reach - its corporate social responsibility programme. The service will continue for a month.
In a statement today, the president and director of the airline, Aditya Ghosh, said: "We are honoured to be a part of this critical relief effort to provide priority access to life-saving drugs to people in need of urgent medical attention. We had provided relief services during natural disasters in Chennai, Srinagar and in Kathmandu. Imphal holds importance as part of our Northeast network. IndiGo will be delivering the medicines free of cost and continue to help the state government in need of logistical support and facilitation of drugs and other medical supplies."
