TODAY -
Indefinite NH blockade against Nagaland
Assam Tribune | DIMAPUR, Feb 24
Several student organisations such as Karbi Students Association, All Dimasa Students Union, All Assam Gorkha Students Union, United Students Union of Karbi Anglong, Karbi Re-awakening Organisation and some other civil organisations have called a blockade on NH 39 & 36 and a six-hour blockade on railways leading to Nagaland on February 25. The blockade is to protest the alleged unabated encroachments along Assam-Nagaland border areas of Daldali and Rongapahar Reserve Forest under Karbi Anglong district of Assam by Nagaland.
The organisations, in a joint statement today, alleged that Nagaland has encroached upon a large area of forest land under Karbi Anglong district and that it has become the order of the day as intruders cut jungles, construct roads and houses, etc., in these areas. When police from Assam asks the encroachers to vacate the areas, they resort to fight back, it said.
