In the grip of nothingness
K. Radhakumar *
Gods goddesses ghosts
Angels monsters -
They were introduced into his world
The world of a child.
The child had no say in
His name
His religion
His food and drink
He picked up the language
Spoken in the place where he was born
As his mother tongue.
He did not know why
He was born into a literary family
And Into a society
Where the dogs tore the foxes apart
For the simple reason
Foxes are foxes and are not dogs.
The child grows bigger and taller:
The harsh realities of life sink in
And he now realizes
Values alien to him
Were Imposed on him at a tender age.
He is sick and tired of life:
There is no cure for it.
Liberty!
He always wears make-up
And nobody has seen him naked.
He has not seen himself
In the mirror
But has a mental picture
Of what he looks like
Without his cloak and wig.
