Request for Immediate Attention: Addressing the Adverse Impact of Internet Ban on Students in Manipur
I am writing on behalf of MitSna, a student-led youth organization dedicated to promoting quality education in Manipur. We are deeply concerned about the ongoing situation in our state, which is adversely affecting the lives of numerous individuals, particularly students and youths.
Firstly, I would like to clarify that our organization remains impartial regarding political issues and does not intend to comment or take sides. Our sole focus is to advocate for the welfare and support of students who are facing significant challenges due to the recent internet ban imposed in Manipur since 4th May 2023.
Numerous students have reached out to us seeking additional assistance as they grapple with the issues arising from the internet shutdown. Beyond the general inconveniences faced by the public, there is an underlying and alarming problem that has severe consequences for the students in our state.
Many students who had plans to pursue higher studies after their graduation has missed the registration deadlines for crucial examinations such as CUET PG and JEE Advanced. These missed opportunities could impede their ability to pursue master's degrees and other advanced studies.
Additionally, students who secured internships in prestigious institutions like IITs and IISERs are unable to access crucial information regarding their status, report back to their institutes about their joining dates, or apply for necessary accommodations.
The internet ban, which was initially slated to be lifted by 13th May, has now been extended until 18th May. If this situation persists, there is a risk that these students may have to take a gap year, thereby jeopardizing their academic and career prospects.
We are grateful that the National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the NEET examination for students with exam centres in Manipur. However, it is crucial to recognize that there are many other students who are unable to address their pressing issues.
Given the gravity of the situation and the potential impact on students' futures, we humbly request your urgent intervention to address this matter. While we understand that establishing internet services in rural areas might pose logistical challenges, we propose the implementation of pop-up internet facilities in government offices accessible to students.
This would enable affected students to visit these designated locations and address their immediate concerns. We kindly request you explore feasible solutions that could facilitate internet access for students in both urban and rural areas.
We firmly believe that swift action taken on this matter would not only alleviate the hardships faced by students but also demonstrate your commitment to the education sector. As stakeholders in the future of our state, we stand firmly in support of our fellow students, advocating for their rights and educational opportunities.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. We would be grateful for any assistance or guidance you can provide to help resolve this issue promptly. Should you require any further information or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We look forward to a positive response from your esteemed office.
