Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) is writing with deep concern on the exiting violence in the state of Manipur. We learn that many houses were burnt down and many people belonging to various communities inhabited in Manipur are displaced due to the exchange of firing between various groups in the state of Manipur.
This situation is not a sign of good future but to monger hatred among the peace loving communities inhabited in the state of Manipur. This armed conflict is observed to be well designed and pre planned action as a result non stop firing is witnessed which means large number of Illegal arms are flowed in Manipur for since quite a long time. This can be witnessed yesterday when a team of Manipur Police was ambushed while on the way to Moreh which injured many personnel including one DIG.
We all witness that large number of para military has been deployed across the border area since many decades and it is time to highly question how these arms are transported into Manipur to create this violent situation resulting in death, displacement, causalities etc.
YFPHR have already appealed to all the concerns to check the illegal arms and licensed guns available in the state, however, no actions could be observed to have been initiated and now it has resulted this ongoing violence which is very unfortunate.
YFPHR also acknowledge and appreciate to all the people of Manipur who are taking initiative in the peace process during such ongoing violence to bring peace in the state.
Concerning the facts cited above, we would like to lay down few area of urgent attention:
1. To rescue and transport back all the stranded people who are stationed in Relief camps in various parts of Manipur and the neighboring states of North East.
2. To initiate independent investigation team to probe the actors involved in creating this violent armed conflict in Manipur and necessary legal action is initiated against them as per the rule of law.
3. To appeal the conflicting parties to refrain from all forms of violence and not to get carried away with the game makers.
