I didn't even realized that it was hard to get a hostel room until the moment I see seven of us occupying the room, and five of them were seniors.
It was 10:30 in the night, I was lying down on my bed, tired and thinking....One of the Gentlemen came to my room and he asked me to come to room no-60... With little timid ness, I walked to the room just to find 15-20 of them waiting for me .I knew, it was the time for vexing ragging....oops :(
I was standing in the center of the circumference of fun loving longi wearing people....It goes like this- "Introduce yourself and shake hands with everyone in this room and also remember their names". With weary eyes and in dysphoric condition, I live up with the moment obeying each and every command. I was asked to sing a song too. I sang "The Milky Way"- MLTR. During this chaotic hour, there was this gentleman pressing cloths at one corner of the room careless and unnoticed. One of the seniors introduces him as the DHOBHI of the hostel.
After almost one hour, I came back to my room tired and sleepy..
The next morning, I had to rush to college for the Chemistry Lab. So I woke up early in the morning and went to room no 60 to find the DHOBHI and gave my shirt for pressing. I told him to finish up fast as I will be late for the class. I told him that I will come to get it after breakfast. He said "Ok sir!"
Well ....it's funny! I can still remember the day very clearly. The situation got worse .I went to get the shirt after my breakfast, but to my surprise, it was still lying there. With disappointment and angry, I started shouting at him-"why. What happened? I told you to get it done fast". He didn't say a word and he took me inside the room and locked the room." Who do you think you are and who do you think I am "- he asked me? I was puzzled! And he started shouting at me....anything could have happened if not another senior banged and opened the door and tranquilize the situation.
It turns out that the guy wasn't a dhobi but a senior person. I couldn't help than saying sorry and I told him that it wasn't my mistake as you were introduce as the Dhobi last night.....
After coming back from the college, I use to go to Brigade road....Commercial Street with a good friend of mine (Athou). I met him in Bangalore during the time for admission... This guy is very intelligent and also he is an easy goer who likes to chill out like me. MG road is the favorite hang out place...We use to walk most of the time and watch lot of movies....Digital Theaters. Amazing sound....beautiful girls....It was all fun...
Sometimes, we would just go to the railway station for no reason, drink chai and come back when we can't afford going to Brigade Road.
Then in the night, I would listen to Bryan Adams album-MTV Unplugged with the walkman that I bought from Nagamapal for 150rs after a hard negotiation.
Life is beautiful. Man. I spend most of my time trying to cope with everything from drinking "by two tea", nimbu pani and eat different varieties of food-.idli vada, masala dosa, anna sambar, the big ban and what not....Where is my Kangshoi?
Then the exam came, pouncing me hard like a nightmare...man. We use to stay late in the night and try to study or whatever. I guess, we just like the idea of staying late in the night and then wake up late on the next day-It was like a real engineering skill....
The first semester exam went pretty good....
Third semester- I met this girl in college. She was my junior actually. It started like this. There was this messenger boy in my class who is very close to her and he will keep telling me about her. I wasn't very sure if I was ever interested until the day I saw the girl...The other day, I was coming to play football with some other folks of my class during the off hours....This guy came to me and he insisted me to speak to the her as she wanted to speak to me. I didn't know what to say as she was standing next to me .Nways, though I wasn't very much comfortable with girls, I managed to talk to her....we sat on the quadrangle of the college campus and she sat pretty close to me, dude :) we talked for about half an hour. And the story starts from there ....
We started talking on phone, exchanging emails in spite of studying in the same college. Sometime we use to skip class and go to the library and .....canteen. What not? We started going out for movies- she use to bring her Dad's car. I was a poor guy and I don't have a bike or a bicycle. We were good friends and we spend most of the times together, it is a long story dude... I wasn't very sure what our relationship holds with no commitments and stuffs like that. We just enjoyed being together and sharing etc..etc.. It was just a trivial relationship and we knew that that it wasn't going to last long.
IT companies and intelligent students flooded the college campus during the campus recruitment....There was no time for romance :)dude. I was lucky that I was eligible to apply some of the companies that came to our college. I tried hard and succeeded to get into one of the best IT companies headquarter at Hyderabad.
Yeah Man-..! Party time,. Beer, whiskey, Chicken and Pink Floyd.-"Shine on you crazy diamond" :)
to be continued...
