Wearing helmets, and riding on a bike was a psychotic pleasure at one
point of time, plausibly inspired from the other metro cities in India.
A felicitous feeling appeared out of nowhere when my Dad agreed to use
his bike during the exam days (12'Th Standard). It was more like going
for a road show than to write an exam. Somehow I passed the exam.
Oh yeah! Sekmai sekmai, sekmai chamelei!.., then it was tougher for me to
decide what to do next, though I always wanted to be an engineer. I
knew nothing about biology except for the definition of Anatomy and
Morphology.
During those days, parents preferred Doctors rather than an
engineer but I had to choose my own way and head towards the whole
journey but I got every piece of support from my Parent.
A good friend of mine (Dhruba)and I joined a private tuition at
Singjamei. We would go together everyday, sometimes skipping the class
and going for 'Romeo and Juliet' evening show and riding back home
shouting Julieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..t .
When it comes to romance, Newton's
third law of motion seems to be insignificant One thing, I really like
about this friend is that he had brains to crack a physics problem
though he wasn't better than me J(I know, you will be reading this
dude!.)
And for the first time in my life, I was a hero and 2 girls use to
chase after me during those days, 2 girls man!. and one of them was a
daughter of a MAntri...I told you I was a handsome dude!
Finally, the day came for the entrance exam. After the exam, we drove
down to Sawombung in my friend's lambeta scooter just to date a girl
whom we met on the same day at one of the bus-stand in Lamlong Bazaar.
We met her at a local Sawombung theater but with little disappointment
as she was with another guy though a relative. Forgetting everything
and forgetting the exam, we came back smoking our one time favorite
'Will's-Navy Cut' just to be seen by his Dad from a passing bus.
Damn it!...I can't get home and hear all the rebuke- screamed my friend.
What a Day...
I was enjoying the siesta, when I was suddenly awaken by my cousin
brother enunciating that I have passed the entrance. Ignoring the news,
I felled into the dreamless slumber just to find that everyone was
happy
when I woke up in the early evening.
It was like a like a nice dream
but
it was for real. Well, what's next ?. I got admitted to one of the
famous engineering college in Bangalore and I was all set to study the
real engineering skills.
First time in my life, we, five of us, filled with delirious thoughts
headed for the Journey. Playing cards, listening to the walkman music
and looking out at the window from the moving train and falling into
some romantic moods and thinking about the GIRLS, we reached Bangalore
during the festive environment of Deepawali.
We booked two double bed
rooms at the 3'rd floor at one of the congested hotels in Majestic. We
were welcomed with a frightening hilarious incident, when we were all
inside the room and suddenly heard a continuous BANG BANG Bang sound
forabout 5 minutes, continuous.. For a moment I thought, somebody is
firing with 47 bullets aiming our room.
We all stifled down on the
floor motionless like a crab until the sound came to a halt. We ran down to
the reception with full horror until we realized that it was a
fire-cracker.
Bangaloreans have a customized way of burning crackers in
a long continuous line. Boy, hailing from Manipur, it was more like a
gun fire.
As all of us were admitted at different colleges, we all headed for our
own official duty. In the evening, I would go out to a nearby dance bar
just to see the place with another yo yo friend who keeps chewing PAN
all the time.. Man, there were few beautiful ladies singing live and
pointing their hands to the crowd, and some rich folks will render the
rupee notes. Finding that one bottle of coke cost 50 bucks, we came
back thwarted.
And there was another friend of mine in the group who goes to meet some
girls and deny taking me along every time he goes to met them JUST
because he thinks that I am smarter than him and the girls might fall
for me ignoring him. Huh! What a world but I was happy to know the
reason J. After 2 days we all dispersed to our own nest for future.
It was raining heavily and my first day at college, I was running like
mad, looking for my class. The moment of inertia, Lamis theorem was the
hot topic- my first class in an engineering college.
I thought to myself, IITian's won't be much intelligent and challenging than this
simple chappal wearing students in my class..
to be continued...
