Dear friends, I would like to share some more of my experiences
with you all.I am sure many of you have read how I moved from CT to
OK in 2003.
Well, today, I would like to tell you the story of how I got my driver's license.
I was going through a very rough patch in my married life as I am sure any married couple would acknowledge the
fact. My hubby would wear a mask whenever I prepared NGARI based dishes & leave the house for a while.
And then I would spray the room with an air freshener. I would then offer him rice and dal and some
of those NGARI dishes without his knowledge to experiment. He'd say it tastes so good.
I would then wait till he finishes eating & then tell him that it was those awful smelling dish I fed him! He
made such faces! He began to like them little by little.
Anyway, when we had problems, he kept the car for himself so I had no transportation to work. This is where my good church family
stepped in. These group of friends from Terry Armstrong's sunday class at my church were so wonderful.
They would sign up every sunday for over four months to transport me to and from work & also to drop
off & pick up my son from the daycare. I was very overwhelmed by the goodness of these friends.
I did not miss any work day. I thought to myself -what did I do to deserve this? I really cannot express
in words how much I am thankful to them for the wonderful help and moral support they gave me all throughout my troubles!
They are the ones who helped me move my stuffs to a new apartment! WITHOUT ANY EXPECTATIONS IN RETURN! If I was a rich woman maybe, the dynamics
would have changed in the perception of the people from my community here, because then I would have been useful to them & viceversa
and since I was just an ordinary person ,I was an outcast to them .
And my husband was branded as street guy & homeless man & what not. It was really very hurtful to hear that. I know he has had
some issues with people. Well, it taught me a lesson -never to trust sweet talkers!
I am sure they will be very incensed to read this article but I dont care. I will tell like it is because I hate
hypocrisy! I like people who practice what they preach! Clean up your own house before you throw dirt at others!
Well, my church friends have been always by my side at all times. I feel so blessed. These friends got together and helped me with
my driving lessons and provided a car for the test. I would like to mention the name of Ms.Paula Weatherly who was heavily
pregnant at that time and due for delivery anytime, bless her heart!
She was there at the motor vehicle office cheering & being there for me! I was very moved by her selfless gesture! On the day of the
test ,just an hour before, the car which I was supposed to drive, its side mirror got brushed against a tree, and it got
cracked.
But my friends duct taped it! The driving test went on well without a hitch! but I was more concerned about Ms.Paula than anything
else! I thought what if she goes into labour at that time! But thank God, she had her baby boy the next day & I got my
driver's license!
We had a big thank you party for this big event. I get misty-eyed every time I see her in the church. Who would do
such a thing for me? I can't thank her enough. Well, because of all these good friends from my Southern Hills Baptist Church in
Tulsa AND THEIR UNCEASING PRAYERS I am able to stand on my feet once again.
I get irritated by people asking my folks back home - how much moolah am I sending home? C'mon guys,I dont work
under the table but I just earn enough to pay my rent & other bills. But I am happy with the very little I have.
Thats my philosophy in life! If I've to run after money all the time then I miss out on the good things God has provided me.
I can enjoy life maximum with the minimum!
