History's Peals of Laughter - II
Jodha Chandra Sanasam *
You, wicked history!
Embittered I am with you today,
cruel and antipathetic you have been
to the simple folks of my land,
a small cloister of hills and mountains
tiny, lovely and flawless
my motherland, the land of my birth
adorned with Nature's beauty,
draped with fortitude and perseverance.
You have been destroying her endless:
The cultural invasion and destruction of art literature
unscrupulous Pamheiba conceded to,
our language crushed and twisted by alien's religion
about to be submerged
into the widening sea of oblivion;
the past Awa invasions intermittent,
at the end, the seven years' devastation!
Not satiated with that,
to the sly greedy British you handed her over;
for them to harness her under their clutch;
the Khongjom War to be remembered ever
as the last war for us to lose our freedom.
You, wicked History!
Enjoy your peals of laughter brittle and sarcastic.
You had seen yourself
Khongjom War and the like subsequent
gave birth to martyrs, nonetheless
the greatest of all greats in our land
Paona, Cheenglen Sana,
Chongthamiya, Tikendrajit, Thangal;
yet it seems your scornful feat is not done with;
you wicked History!
You have not stopped to manipulate
in this land of ours
designing the structure of an amphitheatre
for gladiators from among our brethren laissez faire;
you have not stopped to hiss
conspirations in their ears, in their heads
playing games in the surreptitiousness of dark nights
and your peals of laughter brittle and sarcastic.
O History, tell you what:
back off, stay away
your hands now shall not touch
destroy our land to ruins.
We've known you enough
we're here,
we shall stand undeterred and fearless now
to safeguard love, fraternity, humanity ever.
We no longer can tolerate
your peals of laughter brittle and sarcastic.
