Shri Hijam Gourashyam Singh was born on 1918 at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai.
He was born to Hijam Amu Singh and Aheibam ningol Hijam ongbi Kundalei Devi.
He started to learn pung at the early age of five from his uncle Aheibam Manichand Singh.
Aheibam Manichand Singh inspired him to achieve many laurels in his later life.
Later, he learned the art of Khol from gurus such as Haobam Gopalmacha Singh and Sanggai Singh.
Gourashyam had participated at Gouralilas held at different places of Manipur as a pung artist.
Gourashyam led a troupe of 200 pung artist for paying honour to King Churachand on his way to Brindavan at Chingmeirong.
The King honoured him with gold bangles, Taan and Khamen chatpa dhoti for his performance.
Gourashyam Singh taught the art of Khol at different places of Manipur, Assam and Tripura.
He is an active member of Manipuri Manoharsai, Uripok.
He has been awarded with Badyabhusan Upadhi 2005, Manipur State Kala Academy Award 2012 and Soyam Sidhyashri Award given by President of SSPL, Shrimati Shalu Jindal.
In recognition of his contribution in the field of Manipuri pung, Manipur Sahitya Parishad Imphal honoured him with Badyaratna (Khol) upadhi.
