Hello, Tribal Affairs & Hills Dept... Seize the opportunity
Morung Express | Pungdi P Celestine | June 20:
The specific recommendation of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribe to protect the Maram Tribe inhabiting Senapati District, that had caused the Tribal Affairs and Hills Department to start consultation with other departments on the special measures that can be taken up to protect the Maram Tribe and their Traditions deserved to be applauded.
Though the recommendation didn’t come a day too early, the National Commission in sensing profound emergency had paid the attention to this particularly vulnerable Tribal Group (PTG). The ambitious scheme has assumed the more significant status in the context that the history and heritage of this PTG appears dying a slow death and more so the group deserving an improved quality of life to share the fruits of National development. Manipur and Tripura are homes to the North-East only PTGs – Maram Tribe and Riang respectively.
