Heat on mobile towers government to cut radiation limits
Nagaland Post | Agencies | New Delhi, Jul 18 ()
Mobile towers in India emit very strong radiations. With rising concern about their role in certain types of cancer, government has decided to cut radiation limits to a tenth from September 1. Will new norm be observed?
If you are worried by the radiation emitted by cellphone towers around you, there is some good news. From September 1, 2012, India will lower the level to one tenth of the prevailing standard – from 9.2 w/m2 (watt per square metre) to 0.92 w/m2.
The decision follows a report of the inter-ministerial committee formed by ministry of communications and information technology to study hazards posed by electromagnetic field radiation from base stations and mobile phones.
