Hats Off To Larry Dorjee

By: ABEL HMAR *

Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything that is beautiful,
for beauty is God's handwriting -- a wayside sacrament.
Welcome it in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every flower,
and thank God for it as a cup of blessing.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Churachandpur, Lamka or Tuithaphai or whatever you prefer to call it is a town ‘where good things hardly happen or rarely happen’. It is town that is lost in time, hardly known to the world outside, yet a town that has a lot of potential if only things were the way it’s meant to be. As mentioned there is nothing good in this picturesque town except ‘bad and worse’.

It is a town where dreams die young and where hopes and aspirations evaporate.

A town which could have been ‘A paradise on earth’, but somehow turned into Hell due to petty narrow squabbling, and chronic communalism which has seeped into every aspect of Life in this town with a great potential – Churachandpur, Lamka, Tuitaphai. A town where Communalism has been crowned ‘the Sovereign King’, and ably aided by the Council of Ministers of Narrow Mindedness, Hatred, Animosity, Partiality, Parochialism have unleashed a Reign of terror in the Churachandpur town and the district as a whole.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing in Churachandpur (Lamka) which the Ccpurians or the Lamkaites could be proud of except the very refined dust that keeps trailing you wherever you go. Development is a word long forgotten in this town. The Roads are full of potholes (Potholes which really resembles the Craters on the Moon) barely drivable. The Ministers and the Local MLA’s seems to be least bothered, maybe they are under the impression that ‘the Pot-holes’ that fills the Roads of the Ccpur District and the town could be used by the Local Citizens for storing rain-water, since water is always a scarce resource.

Churachandpur is now only talked about in the past tense – ‘was’ or in a sense implying only possibility. And the Lamkaites – the Local Residents of this town are so strongly divided on communal lines to every worry about their deteriorating town which in reality is moving only from ‘bad to worse’. Garbages are dumped at will, without the least concern. No wonder the stench from the pile of garbage littered at will fills the air as you move from one locality to the other. Nothing is what it should be in Churachandpur as uncertainty lurks around in every nook and corner of the town, fear has it’s vice like grip on our town after the birth of the ‘Gun-Culture’ with it’s theme of easy come and easy go’

The Lamkaites could do nothing about their town since they are so communally divided, the only thing they can do is mourn their plight. This town could be best described in the famous Manipuri Phrase ‘ Mapu – Leiteh!’. Because no one seems to really care for this town, all are thinking in terms of their Community and not for the town. The Residents of this town are Paites, Hmars. Lushais. Kukis first, being a Ccpurian or a Lamkaite comes second. Hence the town is ‘A Stagnant Pool’, and no one seems to give a damned, no one seems to care. And everything in this town seems to be coming to a standstill.

But the God’s have been kind; they have not forgotten this ‘dying forsaken town’ – A town which has been left to its own devices by its communal residents. The best darn thing to happen to this dusty dying town in a long time is the appointment of Larry Dorjee, IPS as the new Superintendent of Police. The arrival of Larry Dorjee as the New S.P. has generated much excitement, hope and anticipations among the Ccpurians especially among the fairer sex of this town.

I personally have often heard mentioned in hushed whispers in different dialects spoken in this town, by members of the fairer sex ‘Have you seen our new S.P.? My! He is a real Hunk, a real knock out, a feast for the eyes. The Police Uniform has never looked any better I swear’. The Excitement that the New Superintendent of Police Larry Dorjee, caused among the Ccpurians did stand justified, when I happen to drive past the S.P. and his men near the Tuiboung Petrol Pump. The S.P. was standing near his Gypsy, and his men were inspecting two young men and their motorcycle.

I pressed the brake of my car, and bought it to a screeching Halt at a safe distance. I stopped my car, not to watch the proceedings of two suspects being rounded up by the Police which is a normal routine in Ccpur, but to have a closer look at the New S.P of Churachandpur who has caused many a hearts to flutter. He was standing there - Well chiseled face, Fair, Handsome, and Dignified. For a moment, I thought I was watching a scene from a Hollywood Block buster where the Leading man plays the role of a Police Officer who comes to rescue people in distress. But this was Ccpur and not Los Angeles I said to myself

No wonder, the ‘Lanus’ (the Ladies) of this town could not stop talking about Larry Dorjee – the New S.P. From that moment on, I agreed in every sense of the tem that Narcissus has finally found his match, a competitor in Larry Dorjee. Handsomeness has a new name– Larry Dorjee. And I could not help but agree with the Senoritas of Ccpur that the Police Khaki Uniform have never looked any better. Even Clark Cable, Tom Cruise, Richard Burton, Leonardo Di Caprio and Mark Feehily of the Boys Band West Life will find it real hard to hold their own against our S.P. Larry Dorjee.

The Appointment of Larry Dorjee as the S.P. of Churachandpur comes as a breadth of fresh air, for the excitement starved Lamkaites (Ccpurians). A town deprived and devoid of any excitement and development, nothing to look forward to except the same old places same old faces, and same old room with the same old view. It won’t be exaggeration to say that many ‘Lanus Hearts’ of this beautiful town often skipped a beat, whenever the S.P. passes by. Men like Larry are rare as the diamonds, such handsome and dignified man. We the Ccpurians believe will also have a beautiful heart and a genuine compassion for the welfare of the people of this strife torn and bleeding town and the Churachandpur district as a whole. We hope that He will redefine what policing is all about in this district.

And with Larry Dorjee at the helm of affairs, the people I believe will regain their faith and trust in the ‘Men in Khakis – the Men in Uniform ‘. Who of late has not been regarded highly by the Public due to their arrogance, and high-handed manner, and for often venting out their anger on an unarmed public. In a state where the term POLICE has almost become a synonym for ‘Corruption, Bribery, and all the other vices’. The Police instead of being ‘The Guardians of Peace and Upholder of People’s faith’ have been "Wreckers of People Faith in the State and its administration’. But like mentioned earlier, with Larry Dorjee as the S.P. we the Lamkaites believe ‘Policing’ will not be the same anymore.

A Product of SRCC (Delhi University), Larry Dorjee has come a long way. And with a charismatic, dynamic, and Handsome man like him as our S.P., we the Lamkaites expect only one thing ‘A Handsome Policing and Fair Administration with Justice for all’ in which even the poorest of the poor and the downtrodden, will feel safe and secure.

Men like Larry Dorjee are as rare as the finest diamonds. The Gods must have needless to say spent more time on Him, such perfection and such charm, just simply unmatched. The Creator’s Masterpiece, sculpted to perfection without a flaw, a cut above the rest, a face in every crowd, the face that is the cynosure of all eyes. A dream husband for any wife, an ideal son for any mother, and a proud that any Sister in the world would love to say ‘That’s my brother’ (Apparently, Our dear S.P. Larry has a sister Rita, who is a Senior Manager in our National Carrier Air-India).

In a town like Ccpur, which is going through a real tough phase after the birth of the Gun-Culture with its theme of easy come and easy go. Heroes and Role Models are hard to find, when a few miscreants can live off the fat of the land in the name of ‘Liberation’. The Youths of Ccpur, now have a Perfect Role Model in Larry Dorjee, a role model to emulate, which could help them rise above their circumstances, and inspire them to reach for the stars.

We the Lamkaites feel really privileged to have the ‘Drop-Dead Handsome Hunk’ Larry Dorjee as our S.P – no doubt the best looking S.P. till date, and who knows it may be that way till the Oceans doesn’t touch the sand. We the Lamkaites are confident that He will be the Pefect S.P. with a deep sense of justice and provide the much-needed healing touch to this bleeding, tired and wounded town. Once again, we thank our Gods above and the C.M. of Manipur who is also holding the portfolio of Home, that we have a. S.P. like Larry Dorjee – A real feast for the eyes, who will not be out of place even in Hollywood.

Like mentioned earlier, Larry Dorjee will no doubt be an inspiration for many young men of this town, to work harder in life. A perfect role model, the Mothers of Churachandpur now have for their sons. Larry Dorjee is one of those rarest men who can best be described in the following statement:-

‘The Girls like Him, the Ladies go crazy over him, the Women adored Him, and the Men want to be Him’.

Larry Dorjee is indeed God’s Handwriting – A wayside Sacrament. No wonder He is welcomed in every fair face, in every fair sky, in every flower. And we Lamkaites thank the Lord our God for this Wonderful Cup of Blessing.

In the end, I would just like to say (with a borrowed line from the famous English Poet John Keats)

‘A thing of beauty is indeed a Joy Forever
But when you have an S.P. like Larry Dorjee
Even Crime is bound to go weak at the knees’

Hats off to Larry!!
