Governors, CMs rue slash in NEC budget
Seven Sisters Post | Sujit Chakraborty | New Delhi (June 27):
The governors and chief ministers of the Northeastern states have expressed serious concern over the “slashing of NEC budget” over the years which has gradually “slowed down” the process of development in the region.
The region’s leaders have pointed out that in successive Five-Year Plan the ratio of actual allocation and the respective plan outlays is actually coming down. During the 10th Five-Year Plan, the ratio was Rs 2,511.50 crores of an approved outlay of Rs3,500 crore thus showing 71.76% of outlay as allocation. In the 11th Five-Year Plan the ratio has come down drastically. When the approved outlay was Rs 7,394.00 crore, the actual allocation was Rs 3,348.50 crore, thus showing 43.93% of outlay as actual allocation.
