Ghatowar bats for NE investment policy change
Times of India | TNN | Jun 20, 2012, 11.15PM IST
The Union minister for Development of North Eastern States (DoNER) Paban Singh Ghatowar said the Northeast Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP) should be modified to attract big investments.
"We need to introspect what is going wrong with the NEIIPP," he said, adding that the Centre had been seriously thinking of more industrial opportunities in the region. He said the Centre and state governments have been sincerely trying to develop industries in the region, but it did not yield desirable results.
Ghatowar expressed displeasure over the slow progress of the railway gauge conversion work between Lumding and Badarpur section. He said that the entire southern Assam, Mizoram, Tripura and parts of Manipur were suffering due to the poor railway network. "I am not happy with the progress of gauge conversion work," he said.
