4th July 2013
The Kuki State Demand Committee (KSDC), time after time had issued press statements inviting the attention of the GoI (Home) to adhere to and implement the written assurances given to the Kuki people. (Records of Discussion dated the 22nd Nov 2012 & Ref No: 9/7/2004-T/MHA(NE Division), dated 13/12/2012 & Ref No: 2/7/2013-CM, dated 27/01/2013).
1. The Kukis, since time immemorial, a tolerant and peace-loving people, have lived in peaceful co-existence with their neighbours.
2. The Kukis and their forefathers’ land had never been merged to the Indian Union since its independence. They are observing the system and governance of India. However, instead of paying attention to their will and aspirations, they are alienated by the Government by grasping their Constitutional rights (land, heritage, customary institutions, lives etc.) through ordinances and legislative acts.
3. KSDC, which is the civil organisation and platform of the Kuki people, the aborigines within outer Manipur parliamentary Constituency, issued press statement on the 16th June 2013 pressing all concerned authority(s) to begin Political dialogue, as assured by Union Ministry of Home Affairs, with the Kuki armed groups, i.e Kuki National Organisation and United Peoples Front, which singed a tripartite peace pact (Suspension of Operations).
4. Observing the adamant attitude of GOI/MHA, KSDC is compelled to revoke its suspended blockade and intensify by launching a General strike and economic blockade from 5:00 AM, 8th July 2013 to 5:00 PM, 9th July 2013, which shall be followed by Economic blockade upto 5:00 PM, July 11, 2013.
5. The blockade will, therefore, be in effective along the National Highway:
1. Imphal to Ukhrul Road
2. Imphal to Tamenglong Road
3. Imphal to Moreh Road
4. Imphal to Chandel Road
5. Imphal to Senapati Road
6. Imphal to Churachandpur Road
7. Imphal to Jiribam Road
6. Only Press/Media, and Medical are exempted from the blockade during the General Strike.
7. The KSDC also appeals to all like-minded organisations, Educational Institution, media, sympathisers and supporters, and friends of the Kukis to support the movement for a PEACEFUL SOLUTION.
