Lieutenant General Gopal R, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps calls on the Governor
Lieutenant General Gopal R, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding 3 Corps, arrived in the state on a two day visit from 28 February to 01 March 2018. The General Officer is responsible for ensuring security of the Indian borders as well as for countering insurgency in major parts of North East India.
The Army General, accompanied by the Head of Assam Rifles in Manipur -Major General Virender Singh, called on the Honourable Governor Smt Najma Heptulla today evening.
General Gopal conveyed his warm greetings and good wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Yaoshang. During the meeting the General Officer discussed the security and law and order situation in the state and assured the Hon'ble Governor of Army and Assam Rifle's commitment to working towards bringing lasting peace in the region.
The Governor emphasised that law and order has vastly improved in Manipur, which can easily be seen by the time that shops close in the evening. The Governor also spoke about the importance of bringing cinema halls to the state. The General Officer reflected that with the railway line coming up, more development is likely to follow in the state.

General Gopal, while reflecting on the immense talent of Manipur in the field of sports requested the Governor to showcase the game of Polo to the entire world. While commending the women Polo players who took part in the Sangai Festival, the Governor reflected that there are plans to make a world class Football Academy in Manipur and also commended the eight players from Manipur who formed part of FIFA U-17 Football World Cup.
IG Assam Rifles, while conveying the unstinted support of his forces for ensuring the well being of the state, emphasized that Assam Rifles is focussed on empowering the children, women and youth of the state to attain financial sustainability and a secure future.
The Assam Rifles is also making a concerted effort towards harnessing the immense talent available in the state in an array of different sporting activities and in the field of art and literature. This is being done by providing them with guidance, counselling, training and suitable platforms to showcase their talent.
The close coordination and interaction between the State Government and Security Forces was highlighted and well appreciated by both the Governor and the Military Generals.
