Filing of nomination low-key in Imphal
The Telegraph | Imphal, Jan. 11:
Poll candidates shunned fanfare as they came to file their nomination papers at the office complex of Imphal West deputy commissioner N. Ashok Kumar, located at Lamphel on the outskirts of the city, following threats by militant groups.
Unlike previous elections, the office complex was almost deserted, barring some supporters here and there; only a few vehicles without party flags were seen today, the last day for filing nomination papers.
Poll observers were deployed all over the state with videographers and photographers to capture the campaigning by candidates to calculate their poll expenditure.
“It is a very low-key affair this time because of the strict vigil by the poll observers. This is a marked change from the past elections,” an official at the deputy commissioner’s office said.
