Figures in the Shadows
K. Radhakumar *
My friend!
You only live once.
In its shadows
I see figures.
The sounds and smells of the dark –
I find it difficult
To distinguish between imagination and reality.
Tentacles of wonder
Closing around its body
One moment it strides across the blue skies,
The next across the snowy fields.
Light and shade!
Yesterday it was unpleasant;
Today it is all sweetness and light to me.
Light and shade!
It appeals to me.
The cocoon of an understanding world
The cozy feeling of a caring guide
These are childhood dreams
That make no sense;
The child has grown up now.
It is time to leave the parental home
And find your own home.
The world is your oyster.
The purpose of life is to live
Now or never.
We are but atoms
Waiting to bond together to form a molecule.
No Fate.
No God.
A lonely but brave soul
In a sea of souls
United by a sense of common humanity.
That's all.
I don’t want anything else, thanks.
