Far Distant Land
Potshangbam Nyaydhar *
Dearest and rarest girl,
There won’t be many as she,
Thinking about her every day,
Tears roll down from his eyes,
Like a morning dew.
Away from him she stays
In a far distant land
The land of greenery,
The land where Imphal River flows,
Meandering and nourishing all.
He sits sadly all alone, in a corner,
Watching the tress sway,
Thinking about her,
Who is far away,
So far away, yet so near.
How lonely he stood,
On the sandy land forlorn,
With her, he could make a perfect band,
But, impossible it is as of now,
’Coz, she stays in a distant land.
For summer, he longs,
To meet his only love,
On the river bank,
Grows a dark brown tree,
Where the summer mangoes drop.
Under the mango tree,
Where they first met,
Anything she wished,
He tried to fulfill,
Everything seems impossible now,
’Coz, she stays in a far distant land.
