Empowerment of Citizens through Legal Awareness
As per the directions of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and under the guidance of Hon’ble Dr. Justice, D.Y. Chandrachud, Hon'ble Executive Chairman, NALSA and Chief Justice of India (Designate), the following two campaigns is to be carried out all over India from 31st October, 2022 to 13th November, 2022 to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of Independence of our country.
1) Empowerment of Citizens through Legal Awareness and Outreach – A Pan India Campaign for bridging the gap between the institutions and the underprivileged by spreading legal awareness and ensuring delivery of legal entitlements to eligible beneficiaries, and
(2) Haq_humara_bhi_to_hai@75 – A Campaign for providing basic legal assistance to persons confined in prisons and child care institutions to commemorate the 75th year of Independence.
The said campaigns were launched by the Hon’ble Executive Chairman, NALSA & Chief Justice of India (Designate) on 31st October, 2022 at New Delhi at 5.00 p.m. through virtual mode.
For the state of Manipur, as a part of the initiation of the Campaign “Haq_humara_bhi_to_hai@75”, an interaction program was organised by Manipur State Legal Services Authority at Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa and Manipur Central Jail, Imphal on 01st November 2022. The program was attended by Shri Ojesh Mutum, Member Secretary, MASLSA and Km. Bineshwori Maibam, Addl. Member Secretary, MASLSA, Jail Officials along with the Prison Field Team for the Campaign comprising of Panel Lawyers and PLVs.
Similarly, for child confined in Child Care Institutions (CCI), as a part of the Campaign, District Legal Services Authorities Imphal East, Thoubal, Tamenglong, Senapati and Ukhrul also organised Virtual Interaction program with the Superintendent of the Observation Homes under their concern DLSA on 01st November 2022 where the DLSA Secretaries interacted with the Superintendents and highlighted about the campaign launch by NALSA.

Mentioned may be made that, the campaign for persons confined in prisons focus on,
ascertaining that person is represented by a lawyer at the trial or for filing of appeals for bail or against conviction;
Providing free legal counselling or services or assistance as required in a person’s case including drafting and filing of appropriate applications;
Ascertaining that person has been provided updated information regarding status of their cases and facilitate communication with lawyers;
Ascertaining that the person is in contact with family or friends,
and in cases where no family/friend has been visiting facilitate the same either physically or virtually;
ascertaining if the person is in need of any urgent medical assistance etc and
for the campaign for child confined in Child Care Institutions (CCI) focus on,
ascertaining that the child is represented by a lawyer,
ascertaining that the child is aware of the status of their case,
ascertaining that the child is in contact with their guardians.
