Cry Of A Dying River...61
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
Hear me my fellow Kangleichas
The traveller's telling tales
Tales of Tiber river flowing through the Rome city
So much like the Nambul and yet so different
It defines the city like it only can
The river that signifies the holy Vatican
The river that flows so swiftly
The river that has been preserved and protected from degradation
The river that is eco-friendly.
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that is a pale shadow of the past
Spare a moment my fellow Manipuris to hear
Tales of/from the morning joggers
The Nambul banks littered with pollutants of all kinds and sizes
Wine/water bottles plastic and non-plastic
Beer cans cigarette packets human excreta
The Nambul Odour that puts all 'Odonils' into shame
Are you listening! the State the Pollution Control Board Fellow Citizens
Their river Our river.
