Cry Of A Dying River...59
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that labours to flow
So unnatural for a river perennial
The river that inches to keep flowing
So unlike the Nambul of yore years
The river that struggles to stay on course
What with piles of plastic piled up
As bottlenecks along the river bed
Imagine a day a time a period
When Nambul ceases to flow.
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that finds delight in traveller's tales
Tales of water bodies being revived and made alive
Tales of lakes and rivers being cleaned and cleansed
Tales of river beds being dredged and made deeper
The river that rejoices in traveller's tales
Tales unbelievable of plastic free environment
Tales admirable of concerned citizens
Discharging civic responsibilities unmindful of State apathy
Oh traveller! tell me more of your tales.
