Cry Of A Dying River - 4
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that was at sync with nature
The river whose eco-system was never threatened
The river that was showery with soothing breeze
The river that symbolised the hill-vale oneness
The river that took you home hale and hearty
The river that was symphonic with country song
The river that served as life-line to Loktak
The river that knew no language of destruction
Oh 'destructive development'! thy name is people.
I am no longer the river I was once
Gone were the days when
I speak no language of violence
I raise no issue of 'rights' violations
No question of justice denied
Today as I lie in comatose
I ask of you oh! the powers that be
Don't I have the right to exist
Couldn't I have the liberty to flourish
Am I not a living entity!!
