Cry Of A Dying River...48
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
My dear fellow countrymen! would you be so kind to
Lend your ear to the story of a river
The story of a river in distress
The river whose trees had been felled
The river whose sparkling sand basins had been quarried
The river whose pebbles had been quarantined
The river whose environs had been degraded
The river whose outskirts had been encroached
The river that has lost its water retention capacity.
I am no longer the river I was once
My dear fellow Manipuris! If you have any tears left
Prepare them to shed for a river
"I was born in a hamlet of a hillock
I grew up with all the innocence of hill
A child of Nature pure and pristine
I pass through the state capital region
I flow through the heart of Yumphal city
I was/am greeted by urbanites sans urbanity
I am throttled and made a den of plastic garbage".
