Cry Of A Dying River...40
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
The river in whose memory had been eternally etched
The mythical fable of Luwang-ee river
A brook on whose meandering water
Was a 'mantis' riding on a reed and crossing the river
And lo! Luwang Ningthou Punshiba on a hunting jaunt
Chanced upon the seemingly mundane sight
Thus was implanted the genesis of ferry
A boat was crafted from the 'UNINGTHOU' of Kouba Eengel Hill
And was commissioned for the first time in the annals of Kangleipak.
I am no longer the river I was once
The river that was a privileged witness
To the FIRST ROWING BOAT sailing along the sublime water of Luwang-ee
An epoch making event of the ancient past
A golden past that symbolised a beginning of historic importance
A cultural heritage of perfecting an art
The art of crafting rowing boat
Wooden boats that enthral the enchanting beauty of Loktak
The river that laments the lapse of people's memory
How tragic! the Luwang-ee tale has been buried in the labyrinth of people's forgetfulness.
