Cry of a Dying River - 3
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am no longer the river I was once
I am less than a rivulet now
Nothing less than a 'nalla'
More of a dumping dustbin
I have been reduced over the years
Into a filthy garbage-ridden drainage
I no longer have sandy soil on my bed
I have only plastic wastes and nonbiogradable trash
I no longer have trees and plants on the banks
I have only crematoriums and crematoriums.
Oh myopic town planners and city fathers
What have you done nay destroyed
You can build hundreds of crematoria
You can never bring back
The pristine beauty that was Nambul
Oh people dear people
What and why have you littered so mindlessly
You may have served your selfish ends
You have failed the eco-system and posterity
Don't you know "No man is an island".
